People of Pace: Oakley Waldrop

State champion barrel racer Oakley Waldrop and her horse Bailey just recently won the State Championship. “When he and I work together and we make a nice clean run, it’s really the best feeling ever. I love him a lot,” said Waldrop. She has been racing since she was four-years-old. She has played softball, but prefers barrel racing more. Barrel racing takes up a lot of her time, so she doesn’t have much time for friends or clubs outside of school hours. “To be honest, it’s a lot of work. I have practice Monday through Thursday; I spend all my extra free time with my boyfriend. It’s a lot of work, but I enjoy it because it gives me something to work for and I can see my results after all the hard work I put in at practice everyday,” said Waldrop.  Barrel racing is Waldrop’s life, and she loves it.
