People of Pace: Makayla Michael

In July, Makayla Michael went to Nationals with her travel basketball team, Santa Rosa Elite. After going to Nationals, Michael began to hear from University of West Florida as they recruited her to come play for them.

Even though Michael knew she wouldn’t have to pick a school until her senior year, she has spent most of her life preparing for the future. “I’ve basically spent my whole life thinking of all the things I need to know if I wanted to play college basketball. I’ve thought about all of the questions I need to be able answer and the questions that I need to ask,” Michael said.

With multiple schools reaching out to Michaels, she began to specifically weigh her options. “One of the biggest reasons I picked UWF is because of the way they play and I plan to study exercise science while I’m there,” Michael said.

Michael started playing basketball when she was six years old at Upward; as a freshman in high school, Michael played starting shooting guard on varsity. Throughout high school, Michael has continued to play starting shooting guard.
